The walls are adorned with gold accents, including framed blueprints and local artwork. Sit back and relax in two comfortably chairs, sip some wine, and bask in the history around you. The closet, painted midnight orchid, offers additional storage with gold accent hooks. It replaces LACHC’s original location of 20 years on Winston Street behind the LA Mission. Instead of five queen beds in the home, the three largest rooms each received a king size bed and updated decor. In addition, all five rooms were updated to have smart tv’s in them, which allows guests to access Hulu, Netflix, Spotify, and much more during their stay.
New Ownership: 2015
They opened the inn first while the restaurant staff was hired and the menu established. The grand opening was in May of 1988, on the 100th anniversary of the home being built in 1888. We’ve updated each room to have modern amenities, all while maintaining the home’s Victorian character.

Actually, this same deep red was used in the 1960’s when the home was a private residence. The walls were beige and a tad boring in the 2000’s, so the new owners selected a slate-green tone for the dining rooms, dark green for the bar, dark red in two dining rooms, and installed hardwood floors in the sunrooms. All five of our inn rooms also received new wood floors, which replaced the beige carpets.

Adding color to the home gave each room a different atmosphere and draws the attention of guests, especially compared to the “decade of beige” that came before. After mastering business in an expanding town, Wilton had his home built beginning in 1880, with construction completed in 1888. It was one of the first homes wired for electricity, which over time, has given Wilton credit for “bringing electricity” to the valley.
Our Featured Artists: Past & Present
There is even an original piece of Blue Stone carved in 1880 to form the foundation of the home. It was removed during renovations in 1986, so we placed it in this room for guests to enjoy! Formerly known as “The Rose Room”, The Stone Room was renovated in 2023, but we wanted to save a section of wallpaper to remember its 35 year history as The Rose Room. The Joshua Wilton House can be divided into two separate gallery spaces, allowing us to feature two artists at once. One artist can also occupy the entire gallery should they have enough work to fill the space.

Another twist in the story is that the new owner of the property is the 19-year-old K-pop singer Samuel Arrendondo, aka Punch of the hip hop duo 1Punch and now known simply as Samuel. Apparently, Mr. Arrendondo wanted the cachet of living in an historic house in an historic district, but not the atmosphere of a historic interior. He and his mother Ms. Kyung Ju Kim, as well as a Mr. Roy Yun, are the addressees of a letter sent by the City of Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources giving 30 days notice to correct the violations and the unauthorized demolitions or face the cancellation of the Mills Act contract. Anne Marie, Mark, and Sean parted ways after a decade in business together (opening and managing other restaurants in TX and SC). The Wilton was then purchased by Jeff Hill, Joe Irvin, and Rodney Eagle in 2015, when it experienced a bit of a renaissance. The new owners had decades of experience in hospitality, and had a wonderful vision for the Wilton.

Room Three - The Tea Room
Lawn parties, bonfires, couches on the roof, and of course the occasional studying. We’ve hosted many of these guests 30+ years later, and they are thankful that she’s been restored to her former glory. We love to hear tales from the days of TKE, so it is always a treat to host fraternity members! We’ve found physiology notes stuffed away in the attic, along with books that were never returned, and some wedding announements from 1977. Decorated in slate-blue to honor the Blue Stone used to build Wilton’s foundation, this room has become very popular. Furnished with a tall king sized bed, armoire, massive mahogany desk, and two comfortable chairs set in our turret, overlooking Main Street.
Nightmare on Wilton Place: Another historic home lost
Take an easy stroll downtown to shop local artists and vendors, or commemorate your experience with a visit to Hugo Kohl, a museum and vintage jewelry shop. Join us downstairs for a scrumptious three-course dinner for two with wine pairings and enjoy the next morning with a gourmet breakfast for two with mimosas. Enjoy a bottle of St. Hilaire sparkling wine with a cheese platter either in the lounge, sun-room, outside on our garden patio, or on our front porch with a view of Main Street.
As a preservationist, I am always filled with a little bit of dread when I drive through our neighborhoods and see construction dumpsters, porta-potties, or fencing around a newly purchased historic home. While I know that change is always part of the life of any house, especially old ones, and new owners will make their mark, you never know quite what you are going to get. Most work involves kitchens and bathrooms that need updating, rooms that require alteration, and in some cases, additions constructed for the needs of modern living. Purchasers of historic homes, however, tend to buy them for their traditional or unique design, solid construction and fine details.
We purposefully designed the rooms so that the TVs are not the main focal point, but are still comfortable to view while relaxing in bed. All rooms were completed with desks as well, which gives each room a designated workspace if need be. After the TKE fraternity moved to another building closer to campus, the home spent roughly two years undergoing heavy renovations. The commercial kitchen was added to the back of the home, and the second story was renovated so that each of the five bedrooms could have their own private bathrooms (thus, making it an inn-space).

It is also a rare example of a Queen Anne Victorian home in the south (Wilton fell in love with the style while living in New York). After Wilton’s passing, the Shenk family owned the home for years, it became a boarding house, then apartments, then played host to the TKE Fraternity for just over a decade. This historic bedroom is bathed in warm evening light, overlooking sunsets from the front yard. The Tea room is painted in faded pink and dark brown earth tones (Irish Tea and Turkish Coffee) which add to the coziness of this room. An antique tea cart and vintage books adorn the room, alongside local artwork, a smart TV, and writing desk.
Joshua House will have its virtual Grand Opening called “A Promise Kept” on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 6pm PST on Zoom. Mills Act contracts significantly reduce the property tax burden on owners of designated properties — to incentivize and underwrite preservation. Breaking the contract through unapproved alterations can lead to the loss of the tax benefit and a 12.5 percent penalty fee on the fair market value of the property, in this case a penalty of nearly $250,000! Well, the reality turned out to be something different, as concerned neighbors in early April began to see demolition activity removing hardwood floors, mahogany details etc.
They brought in a diverse team of chefs, began serving Brunch and Afternoon Tea, and once again updated the menu and service style to better reflect Harrisonburg’s needs. Jeff, Joe, and Rodney also owned and operated the Local Chop and Grill House since 2009; which gave the Wilton a “sister-restaurant” to exchange ideas with, share staff, and coordinate large events. Instead of the busy, purple zebra carpet, the owners selected a beautiful deep red carpet for the home.
Further investigation revealed that the majority of the historic interior had been brought down to the 100-year-old studs, causing an irreparable loss of historic fabric, a monument plundered. This gallery has images of our NYE menu items, as well as specials and cocktails from the end of the year. As a reminder, all rooms are located on the second story, meaning all guests must be able to walk up a full flight of steps.
